I read this book years ago, when it first came out. I know it inspired me at the time, which is why I’m including it here. But when I was trying to categorise it, I realised I couldn’t really remember what it was about!
For those of you like me, who have forgotten, or for new readers this passage is from the Author’s Note: (In my old, paperback edition).
“For half a century now, a new consciousness has been entering the human world, a new awareness that can only be called transcendent, spiritual. If you find yourself reading this book, then perhaps you already sense what is happening, already feel it inside.
It begins with a heightened perception of the way our lives move forward. We notice those chance events that occur at just the right moment, and bring forth just the right individuals, to suddenly send our lives in a new and important direction. Perhaps more than any other people in any other time we intuit a higher meaning in these mysterious happenings.
We know life is really about a spiritual unfolding that is personal and enchanting – an unfolding that no science or philosophy or religion has yet fully clarified. And we know something else as well: we know that once we do understand what is happening, how to engage this allusive process and maximize it’s occurrence in our lives, human society will take a quantum leap into a whole new way of life – one that realizes the best of our tradition – and creates a culture that has been the goal of history all along.”
James Redfield
The Celestine Prophecy, p9
Having re-read this I might now go back and read the book again. Currently I agree with him, in the respect of a new awareness, most writers I read call it conscious living. I disagree with him on the bit about no science or philosophy or religion has fully clarified this. To my mind the teachings have always been there by the many great Spiritual Masters who have attained a conscious, or enlightened view. They are just different perspectives on the same theme. And to my mind, science has now evolved to such an extent we now know many of the answers. Psychology, for instance teaches us how the mind works, so we can fully understand the concept of ego. And science and religion/spirituality (which teaches transcendence of ego) come together.
♥Ali.

I submerged myself in the writings of Dr. Carl Jung and have tried to pass on his teachings to others, particularly when I dream and get a match in my conscious “awakened” life later. It helps me to meditate and let my mind take a “car nap.” I feel more open to the moment. It is amazing how many mundane daily encounters can be filled with messages if we allow ourselves to only look . . .
I’m just starting to read his work. (Although I’ve read quite widely around him). Which book do you recommend as a starting point? Kind regards, Ali.
His book on Dreams, rather the book written by British Broadcast reporter following interviews with Dr Jung before his death: “Man and His Symbols,” written by a guy named Freeman, with an article by Jung as well as some of his followers. I had written down my dreams over a 6 week period after reading the book, and I feel I am close to understanding Synchronocity, a term coined by Jung, proving that Dreams and dream connections to conscious events in our lives are not mere coincidences, but a result of our unconscious on the world around us.
Pretty neat stuff . . .
Hey, are you related to that Pochahontes cartoon character by Disney? Your Gravatar looks mightly similar.

Thanks! And sorry for the delayed response. Do you know who the British Broadcaster is? Ali.
